Other similar names: hobbyist, Sunday artist, dabbler, art as an avocation. Emerging Artist or Early-Career Artist. A person who is in the early stages of a professional art-related career. They are developing their artistic “voice” and are in the process of establishing a foothold in the professional arena.
Start by giving yourself permission to make mistakes, and to experiment and practice, and to produce stuff you're not going to show anyone else. I frequently spend half an hour or more before I start anything serious just scribbling. Lots of scribbling with different brushes, sizes, opacities and colours.
Some of the most challenging things to draw include facial expressions, foreshortening of the human body, drapery folds, drawings based on your ideas instead of a direct reference, hands, movement, and gestures.
An artist is anyone capable of conceptualizing an emotion, idea, or moment, or of more value, someone who can express themselves using their imagination. Art is considered any creative work whether it is a painting, a sign, a poem, a sculpture, or even a tattoo.
