Why can't I log into my CareFirst account? ›

Please check that you have typed your User ID and Password correctly. If you have forgotten your User ID, please contact your Office Manager for assistance. If your password is not working correctly, please use the "Forgot Password" function or contact your Office Manager for assistance.

It is important to note that Johns Hopkins has not terminated its contract with CareFirst Community Health Plan DC; therefore, members in this plan can still access Johns Hopkins services in District of Columbia locations.

What is the relationship between CareFirst and Blue Cross Blue Shield? ›

History. The history of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield can be traced back to 1934 when a hospital association in Washington, D.C. formed Group Hospitalization, Inc. In 1942, the company was sanctioned to use the Blue Cross service mark, and in 1951 became a full participating member of the Blue Cross system.

HMOs don't offer coverage for care from out-of-network healthcare providers. The only exception is for true medical emergencies. With a PPO, you have the flexibility to visit providers outside of your network. However, visiting an out-of-network provider will include a higher fee and a separate deductible.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association means the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans. [CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) means the business name of Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, Inc. (GHMSI) or CareFirst of Maryland, Inc.

There are two networks available, the JHU Preferred Physician Network and CareFirst's PPO/BlueChoice Advantage Network; however you can always visit providers outside of the plan network.

To begin the registration process, visit provider.carefirst.com. Click on Create an Account. You will need your Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Billing National Provider Identifier (NPI) to register. Once you enter that information, click Next.
