When you flip through a fashion magazine or read an online fashion article, you hear more and more talk about curvy sizes and models, but what is meant by this term?

The word clearly derives from the English 'curve', or curva in Italian.

As you can see from the translation, curvy refers to soft, shapely bodies with pronounced curves.

The addition of a y at the end, as is often the case in English, is intended to make the word adjectival and bring it closer to the general public.

The term is intended to humanise those women who for too long have suffered from judgments about their plus size.

Curvy is beautiful

The concept of curvy size expresses the idea of a curvy body in harmony and living happily, even with a few extra notches on the belt or a few buttons that pull.

It expresses a feeling of well-being and love for one's body, and also implies a certain care for one's health.

Curvy is in fact a way of understanding a new sensuality, no longer linked to a concept of thinness. Let's take a look at what it means in terms of measurements, from what size you are considered curvy and who the curvy models are, i.e. the representatives of this fashion revolution.

What are the measurements to define curvy sizes?

Curvy yes, but from what size? From what sizes can you start to consider yourself curvy?

The first thing to consider is that not all bodies are the same and that size does not in any way reflect an ideal of beauty.

Every body is beautiful no matter what size it is. But let's take a practical look at what sizes curvy people wear.

We start at size 46 and go up to 50. Another element to take into consideration is height. A curvy model or size should be between 170 and 180 cm tall.

But the most important characteristic for assessing a curvy size is the measurements.

The characteristic measurements of a curvy person are:

  • bust - circumference between 100-110 cm
  • waist - between 75-90 cm
  • hips - between 100-110 cm

We are therefore talking about a physicality with well-defined and full forms, characterised by abundant breasts, soft hips and a narrow waist: a body often defined as hourglass, precisely because it is narrower at the hips.

Being curvy does not mean being overweight but simply having sinuous, full, soft shapes: in a word, having curves.

Let's see now some tricks to enhance your curvy body and which clothes to wear to be always fashionable!

Tips for choosing the best clothes for curvy sizes

Fashion for curvy women must be a concentrate of femininity, sensuality and, why not, comfort too.

The style for a curvy person must highlight the softness and curves of the body, but clearly also support and highlight them.

Beauty and the ability to be fashionable at all times have nothing to do with thinness or the size you wear.

However, there are some little tricks that can enhance the softest shapes, let's see them together.

Contouring technique

This technique is actually a bit different from fashion and is more related to make-up. However, these two spheres of beauty are often linked and inseparable. The technique consists of making up your face in a way that slims it down, enhances the features and gives the idea of a well-groomed and fresh face.

Hiding love handles with the right outfit

The belly is the critical point for many curvy women, but there are many ways to hide it. First and foremost, highlight your strengths, such as your breasts or posture, and don't wear clothes that are too tight.

Making the most of large breasts

This is one of women's concerns. Of course, the first step here is to find the right size, one that can meet the needs of the cup but also the size of the chest as a whole. The ideal is to focus attention on other parts, not with a view to hiding it but to enhance it without losing points to other beautiful parts of our body.

How does one become a curvy model?

We've talked about many aspects of being a curvy size, but what should models look like? What does an agency for curvy models require as a prerequisite?

The answers certainly vary from agency to agency, however there are some important points that they all have in common.

  • the measurements we have described above
  • an excellent posture (the basis for all those who want to be part of the modeling world)
  • photogenics: it may seem strange, but it is important. The image that is built up through photos must be as natural and beautiful as possible.

However, the requirements do not stop there, let's see together others that are linked more to the practical aspects of being a curvy model:

  • the breasts must be abundant: this is a typical characteristic of curvy sizes and the world of curvy fashion wants to exalt in this way the concept of abundance and prosperity with a view to well-being.
  • have a healthy diet: being curvy has nothing to do with being overweight, so, even if we are talking about larger sizes, even curvy models must follow some important rules to cultivate their physique.
  • Physical activity: while beauty and thinness are not synonyms but just two words that rhyme, toning is important even in a curvy body. Physical activity is also linked to the concept of well-being, of which curvy women are the absolute representatives.

So we've seen a lot of aspects of being curvy and how to become a model or enjoy the right outfit. We conclude by saying that fashion is constantly evolving, thanks to curvy models from size 48 to larger.

Their example teaches us that beauty cannot be defined by circumferences or standardised in a single canon.
