Lightboard Cleaning Guide (2024)

Simple and Fast

The design of our lightboards makes cleaning quick and easy. Cleaning towels are included with all of our lightboards. Use these towels dry to simply wipe away writing you want to erase. You may see slight smudges on the glass in front of you, but they will not be noticeable with proper camera settings.

That’s it! See it for yourself in the video below:

Why is thisprocess so quick and effective?

  1. A piece of high-quality, optically clear polished glass: If you have a crummy piece of glass or easy-to-scratch plastic, you are destined for a frustrating experience.
  2. Proprietary lightboard illumination: The way we illuminate the writing makes writing glow and smudges remain invisible to the camera.
  3. Markers:Every brand and type will be a little different, some markers are more greasy or resistant to being erased. Here we are using the Quartet Neon Markers, which are our favorite and by far the easiest to erase.

Full Wet-Clean

You may choose to periodically do a full wet-clean of your lightboard. Thoughnot typically required for our lightboards, the below procedure is still the most thoroughway to clean when needed. Self-built lightboards and learning glass boards will have much more stringent cleaning requirements.

  1. Erase all writing with a dry cloth or paper towel.
  2. Spray the glass with an even coat of Foaming glass cleaner. Fold a half sheet of paper towel into a square that is comfortably held in your hand and wet that with cleaner. A clean, saturated cloth will work fine as well. Wipe back and forth over the entire surface to lightly agitate the residue and get it into solution. Apply more solution to the glass while scrubbing if needed to keep the glass surface wet everywhere.
  3. Use a squeegee to wipe off all of the cleaning solution by making horizontal passes starting at the top and working your way down. Use paper towels or clean cloths to soak up that solution and wipe off the blade of the squeegee if you ever remove it from the glass.

If there are any minor spots left on the glass between squeegee passes, or along the edges, try to dry them with a clean paper towel or low lint cloth. It may be helpful to scrub the glass with an additional clean paper towel or cloth to more fully remove them. If there are too many, repeat the steps above. See the video below for the full procedure.

Note: The residue left by different markers varies and may impact your preferred method. We include a set of two popular marker types so customers can try them all and see what works best for them. Read more about markers.
