Louisville Slugger Atlas vs. Select PWR BBCOR Baseball Bats (2024)

Top high school and college baseball programs in the country turn to Louisville Slugger BBCOR bats to help take their game to the next level. The game-changing technology in the Louisville Slugger BBCOR lineup is unmatched, and unrivaled expertise of Louisville Slugger’s research and development team offers a certain advantage over the competition.

Two of the most popular bats are the Louisville Slugger Atlas BBCOR bat and the Louisville Slugger Select PWR BBCORbat. But which bat is best for you? Ryan Stevens, the Principal Technical Specialist of Research and Design at Louisville Slugger, offered insight to help players make the best choice to match their swing.

“The Atlas BBCOR is a one-piece bat with a massive sweet spot. Atlas offers a mid-load, balanced feel that allows for faster speeds through the zone,” Stevens said. “Atlas is carefully constructed to give hitters the best feeling one-piece in the market. For a one-piece the vibration is slim to none with our new vibration technology.”

The vibration technology specific to Atlas is a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). The honeycomb-shaped TMD absorbs vibration on contact, preventing it from passing to the handle from the EVOKE Alloy Barrel. The TMD in the handle prevents the vibrations from reaching a player’s hands, allowing hitters to get an unbelievable feel with every swing – no matter where they make contact.

But what about the Louisville Slugger Select PWR BBCOR Bat? How is it distinct from the Atlas BBCOR and other bats Louisville Slugger offers? Stevens pointed to the EXD Premium Alloy Barrel, which is a half-inch longer than traditional BBCOR barrels.

“Select PWR is a two-piece bat with a lot of power. It has a stiff connection and has minimal vibration on mish*ts,” Stevens said. “This end-loaded model has been super popular at the college level the past couple seasons. Select PWR has one of our more traditional barrel designs, giving it a unique sound of sweet spot hits.”

The heavy-swinging design of the Select PWR BBCOR is perfect for those power-hungry hitters who are looking for some increased thump to their swing.

“Select PWR hitters would prefer this bat because of the barrel load feeling and two-piece design,” Stevens said. “Select PWR is very popular at the college level because of its endloaded feeling."
