The Spring Festival in 2023 is a seasonal event running between 3 April and 16 April. It is a successor to the 2022 Spring Festival. It features skilling activities, experience buffs, depending on community progress, in the area, as well as several community benefits and improved benefits of catching green, white, and yellow Guthixian butterflies.

Event noticeboards promote the event. It is possible to teleport to the event area through the Event interface. A temporary bank chest can be found in the area.

There are three activities in the area, all of which grant Spring Tokens. The first 5,000 tokens per day from these activities are earned at a doubled rate.

Ironmen can take part and gain experience during the event, but can't benefit from the experience boosts rewards from the community engagement.

Activities[edit | edit source]

Skilling pets, strange rocks, and cosmetic token unlocks cannot be obtained from any of the following activities.^[1] Yak track points on the other hand, can be gained.

Stone celebration[edit | edit source]

This activity is run by Athletix. Players can celebrate at the central Druidic Stone which causes them to walk around it for Agility or Prayer experience in either clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. The player use either the Conga Walk (Agility) or the Loved Up Walk (Prayer) animation depending on which kind of XP they are receiving.

The correct direction to walk alternates every minute, and Athletix will say I have re-calculated. We must go clockwise/anti-clockwise! to signal this. Walking in the wrong direction awards around half the experience.

Potion brewing[edit | edit source]

This activity is run by Kaqemeex. Players brew at one of three cauldrons for either Herblore or Cooking experience.

One of the cauldrons is always glowing, and every minute the glow moves to another cauldron. When this happens, Kaqemeex will say The northern/eastern/southern cauldron is glowing. We should surely brew it! The glow always moves from the northern cauldron to the eastern, from the eastern cauldron to the southern, and again from the southern cauldron to the northern. Brewing at a cauldron that is not glowing cauldron awards around half the experience compared to brewing at the glowing one.

Icon carving[edit | edit source]

This activity is run by Wittelstix. Players carve one of three wooden icons, automaton icon, Guthix icon, or Guthixian butterfly icon representing an automaton, Guthix, or Guthixian butterfly, for either Fletching or Crafting experience.

Like with the potion brewing, one of the icons is always glowing, and every minute the glow will move to another icon. When this happens, Wittelstix will say The northern/western/southern icon is glowing. Carve it to show thanks! The glow always moves from the northern icon to the western, from the western icon to the southern, and again from the southern icon to the northern. Carving the icon that is not glowing awards around half the experience compared to carving the glowing one.

Each icon visually starts off as a simple log, but after enough carving it will begin to take shape. Icons go from unstarted, to started, and finally complete. After this they reset back to unstarted. Each icon takes 250 skilling actions to advance a full visual stage, taking 12.5 minutes of continuous carving from a single player.

Base experience values[edit | edit source]

The experience gained per action depends on the player's level in the selected skill and whether or not the player performs the correct action. All three activities provide experience of the selected type continuously in three-second intervals until interrupted. The following tables list base experience for a single correct action at each skill level. Incorrect actions yield half the experience of correct actions, rounded down to the nearest 0.1 experience.

Guthixian butterflies[edit | edit source]

Daily[edit | edit source]

Green, white, and yellow Guthixian butterflies occasionally spawn at the compass clue coordinates that appear in elite Treasure Trails.^[2] They can be caught for experience, a great amount of experience, and bonus experience, respectively, to one of the player's lower skills, which is determined similarly as in Tears of Guthix. Catching any of them increases the counter for community milestones. Ironmen can obtain experience from catching green and white Guthixian butterflies, but are unable to gain bonus experience from catching yellow Guthixian butterflies.

Without any community milestones unlocked, a total of ten green Guthixian butterflies, one white Guthixian butterfly, and ten yellow Guthixian butterflies can be caught by a player on each day of the event. The community milestones increase these limits to 15 green Guthixian butteflies, two white Guthixian butterflies, and 15 yellow Guthixian butterflies.

Free-to-play players can catch butterflies (up to their daily limit) but will not gain any direct or bonus experience from them.

Hourly[edit | edit source]

This activity appears near the Tree of Balance approximately every hour, at 45 minutes past, causing a giant Guthixian butterfly to appear for five minutes.

The giant butterfly acts similarly to the regular green Guthixian butterfly, awarding experience in your lowest level (or experience) skill, but the giant butterfly doesn't disappear upon gaining experience from it, and also yields five Spring Tokens each time experience is gained. If the players are active enough, the giant butterfly disperses into three huge Guthixian butterflies which acts similarly as the giant one. The huge butterflies in turn each disperses into three large Guthixian butterflies, again acting similarly.

Each of the butterflies yields between 50 and 1,500 Spring Tokens when successfully dispersed before despawning, depending on player's contribution. Furthermore, the giant Guthixian butterfly yields a lost Easter basket map.

The giant butterfly remains for up to five minutes, the huge butterflies for up to three, and large butterflies for up to two. The total time to complete is from 45 minutes past the hour to a little over 53 minutes past the hour—up to nine minutes if the players manage to disperse the giant and huge Guthixian butterflies just in time.

Experience gained at a time is equal to 3% of the experience that a green Guthixian butterfly would yield (e.g. 130.6 experience at level 99). As with the other butterflies, free-to-play players can catch the giant butterfly but will not gain any experience.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

In order to get three to five butterfly dispersals, each with rewards of Spring Tokens or lost Easter basket map:

• Choose a world which has enough players to disperse the butterfly before time is up
• Wear the complete butterfly outfit to increase catch rate
• When the butterfly disperses to next stage, change to the butterfly which has the lower orange dispersal status bar

For each 800,000 Guthixian butterflies caught up to eight million, a new reward is unlocked.

12,630,684 butterflies had been caught when there were 30 seconds to the end of the event.

Surplus Spring Supplies[edit | edit source]

Spring Tokens are received when participating in any of the event activities. Each activity grants two tokens every three seconds if the correct action is performed, or one token every three seconds if not. These rates are doubled for the first 5,000 tokens each day. If performing the correct actions, it requires a little over one hour to receive the first 5,000 tokens each day. Tokens can also be gotten as community prizes from Thaerisk Cemphier, and as a reward from dispersing the hourly butterflies.

Spring Tokens are used to buy rewards from Thaerisk Cemphier.
