On-the-Job Related Injuries/Illness (Worker's Compensation)

On-the-Job Related Injuries/Illness (Worker’s Compensation)

The Student Health Center is not a Worker’s Compensation healthcare facility. Employers often cover the medical expenses related to an employee’s work-related injury or illness through a company sponsored or covered worker’s compensation insurance plan. As the Student Health Center does not bill insurance, we do not qualify as an acceptable Worker’s Compensation healthcare facility. Failure to follow your employer’s procedures for an on-the-job injury or illness, may result in denial of coverage for any present and/or future injury or illness related expenses.

UT Faculty/Staff with an On-the-Job Injury/Illness:

UT faculty or staff injured on the job should, when possible, notify their immediate supervisor and, go to the nearest emergency room for assessment and care if they are experiencing an emergency. Those with non-emergent work-related injuries or illness should proceed through the Worker’s Compensation Reporting process to facilitate their care.

UT Students employed by the University with an On-the-Job Injury/Illness:

UT students injured while at work for the university should, when possible, notify their immediate supervisor and, go to the nearest emergency room for assessment and care if they are experiencing an emergency. Those with non-emergent work-related injuries or illness should proceed through the Worker’s Compensation Reporting process to facilitate their care.

Students employed elsewhere with an On-the-Job Injury/Illness:

UT students injured while at work for an employer should, when possible, notify their immediate supervisor and, go to the nearest emergency room for assessment and care if they are experiencing an emergency. Those with non-emergent work-related injuries or illness should proceed with their employer’s Workmans Compensation Reporting Procedures. If unaware of those procedures, they should contact their employer for information.

Patient Eligibility

Appointment Scheduling Appointments are scheduled only by phone. Call (865) 974-5080 weekdays before 4 pm to schedule. Due to the volume of calls, you will likely need to leave a message with your return call information, as requested. Make sure you are available to accept return calls and, if not, that your Voicemail is accessible and receiving new messages. Calls for appointments are returned on the day of your call. For emergencies, call 911.

***Before calling, we encourage you to review our Clinic and Services options to more quickly facilitate your appointment scheduling.***

Patients are seen by appointment only. Walk-ins are not permitted. Patients without a scheduled appointment are advised to contact the Telephone Triage Nurse to schedule an appointment. As their condition warrants, the SHC refers those with urgent or emergency health-related issues calling in or walking in without an appointment to a local Urgent Care/Walk-in Clinic or an Emergency Room.

If you are uncertain where you should be seen, you may contact our Nurse Advise Line, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for additional guidance.
