Fibonacci sequence (spiral) / golden ratio (2024)

Even a simple spiral has history, math and science hidden within it! Have you ever heard of the Fibonacci sequence? Even if you have never heard of it, you have seen it! It is everywhere! It is you! It is me! It is the galaxy! The Fibonacci sequence isan aspect of Sacred Geometry, a geometric symbol that resonates across nature and through various spiritual traditions around the world. defined as a spiral, or a series of spirals. You can find examples of the Fibonacci sequence throughout nature in many plants, within our own body structures and DNA, as well as in the universe! Mathematically, when you continue a pattern by adding the previous number to the current one, the outcome is the infinite Fibonacci sequence. (ex: 1+2 =3; 3+2 =5; 5+8 =13; 8+13 =21; 13+21 =34, and so on) This sequence is infinite in the sense that it goes on forever as it develops.

History of the Fibonacci Sequence

In the dark ages, Leonardo of Pisa, also known as Fibonacci, discovered the sacred geometry pattern in which we now know as the Fibonacci sequence. As a young boy, he accompanied his father on his travels through North Africa. It was during this time when he learned Arabic mathematics. He returned to his homeland, Italy, and spread his new knowledge of this form of math. Europeans growth in mathematics had become stagnant, and they later adopted the ways of Arabic math. While he was writing his book "Liber Abaci", he made a discovery of this reoccurring, infinite pattern. This discovery has since then been found throughout nature, humanity, science, math, and even spiritual practices.

Think about a big, beautiful sunflower. Think of how the middle, or inside, of the flower, repeats this crazy cool pattern of the seeds. That is the mysterious Fibonacci at work! From the number of petals that are on a flower, the way a pineapple or pine cone spirals, or the way a branch splits out into 3, it is all the same pattern! In relation to our own bodies as examples, think about the pattern of our DNA strands and how they spiral. The math and science behind our DNA is in the pattern of the Fibonacci sequence. Even as a human develop, we grow through 8 stages. The first two years of life are referred to as early infancy, and next is the toddler stage from two to four. Early childhood is from 4-7, and middle childhood is 7-11. Here, you can see the pattern connect. Throughout history, the Fibonacci sequence has been applied to art in many forms. In famous art pieces, "The Last Supper" and "The Mona Lisa", Leonardo Da Vinci used the Fibonacci sequence to create these masterpieces! Music composers such as Mozart and Bartok have used this same sequence in some of their works! Even in today's age of music, Maynard James Keenan from the band TOOL was inspired by the Fibonacci series and used it to create the rhythm and lyrics of their song "Lateralus".

Spirituality of the Fibonacci Sequence

This sequence is so astounding and important because it acts as a map for spiritual growth. We start in the beginning, where we begin to understand that our actions have reactions. To gain the knowledge of where we disconnected and how to move on helps us to spiral out. We must challenge ourselves in situations to grow. golden ratio, in mathematics, the irrational number (1 + Square root of√5)/2, often denoted by the Greek letter ϕ or τ, which is approximately equal to 1.618.

What is the best Fibonacci golden ratio? ›

What is the Fibonacci sequence? The golden ratio of 1.618 – the magic number – gets translated into three percentages: 23.6%, 38.2% and 61.8%.

What are some fun facts about the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio? ›

This ratio appears in the spacing of digits in the Fibonacci sequence. The ratio also makes up the side length of the Golden Rectangle, approximately 1:1.618. More precisely, a golden rectangle is a rectangle that can be cut up into a square and a rectangle similar to the original one you just cut up.

What is the difference between the golden ratio and the Fibonacci spiral? ›

A Fibonacci spiral is made of squares that increase in size. But a Golden Spiral is made by nesting smaller and smaller Golden Rectangles within a large Golden Rectangle. The Golden Ratio can be used with other shapes as well.

What is the easiest way to solve the Fibonacci sequence? ›

Remember, to find any given number in the Fibonacci sequence, you simply add the two previous numbers in the sequence. To create the sequence, you should think of 0 coming before 1 (the first term), so 1 + 0 = 1.

What is the most attractive golden ratio? ›

A visually balanced face is approximately 1.618 times longer than it is wide. The distance from the top of the nose to the center of the lips should be around 1.618 times the distance from the center of the lips to the chin.

What is the God number in nature? ›

The golden ratio is 1.618, represented by the Greek letter 'phi', is said to be is a mathematical connection between two aspects of an object. It is also called the Fibonacci sequence and it can be found across all of nature: plants, animals, weather structures, star systems – it is ever-present in the universe.

What is the strongest Fibonacci level? ›

The ratios form the support or resistance levels in Fibonacci Retracement analysis. The important levels are 61.8% (an-1 / an), 38.2% (an-2 / an), and 23.6% (an-3 / an). There are other important levels like 78.6% and 50%, which are not Fibonacci ratios but are nonetheless important.

What is a famous Fibonacci quote? ›

If by chance I have omitted anything more or less proper or necessary, I beg forgiveness, since there is no one who is without fault and circ*mspect in all matters.

Why is golden ratio Fibonacci important? ›

The golden ratio is frequently used by traders and technical analysts, who use it to forecast market-driven price movements. This is because the Fibonacci numbers and the golden ratio have a strong psychological importance in herd behavior.

Why was Fibonacci forgotten? ›

In the following centuries, however, Fibonacci was increasingly forgotten, like so many works of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries overrun by the invention of movable type printing. At the most, Fibonacci was known about as a result of Pacioli's testimony.

What is the golden rule of Fibonacci retracement? ›

As per the Fibonacci retracement theory, after the upmove one can anticipate a correction in the stock to last up to the Fibonacci ratios. For example, the first level up to which the stock can correct could be 23.6%. If this stock continues to correct further, the trader can watch out for the 38.2% and 61.8% levels.

How is Fibonacci ratio calculated? ›

The key Fibonacci ratio of 61.8% is found by dividing one number in the series by the number that follows it. For example, 21 divided by 34 equals 0.6176, and 55 divided by 89 equals about 0.61798. The 38.2% ratio is discovered by dividing a number in the series by the number located two spots to the right.

What is the difference between the Fibonacci method and the golden section method? ›

The Fibonacci method differs from the golden ratio method in that the ratio for the reduction of intervals is not constant. Additionally, the number of subintervals (iterations) is predetermined and based on the specified tolerance. Thus the Fibonacci numbers are 1,1,2,3, 5,8,13,21, 34ททท.

What is the golden pocket of Fibonacci? ›

Fibonacci Golden Pocket is commonly thought to fall between 0.618 (or -61.8%) and 0.65 (or -65%). This level is critical because it frequently marks a big turning stage for a currency's price.
