Thinking About Art Making: Questions for Reflection – AP Central (2024)
The questions below are provided to students whose work is featured in AP Studio Art resources. The prompts were created to encourage reflection on art making and artistic thought processes. Find out how artists have used reflections and reflective surfaces in their work. Reflections have often been a subject for artists. Mirrors allow artists to use themselves as their own subject, while placing a mirrored surface in the gallery can confront the visitor with their own reflection.
Self-Expression and Awareness: Art provides a platform to voice our feelings, thoughts, and identities. Contemplation and Reflection: Through art, we can introspect and ponder life's mysteries. Entertainment and Joy: Beyond its deeper meanings, art can also be sheer fun and enjoyment.
Art has the power to change the way we see the world, awakening us to new perspectives, ideas, and values. It can take us back in time to reflect on our past or push us further into our future. Art can bring awareness to social issues and foster a sense of acceptance — bringing people together regardless of background.
How are artworks cared for and by whom? What criteria, methods, and processes are used to select work for preservation or presentation? Why do people value objects, artifacts, and artworks, and select them for presentation?
What Is a Guiding Question? Your guiding question is an idea that you are interested in EXPLORING, EXPANDING, and REVISING over a year long investigation (hence the name Sustained Investigation) 🙌🏽.
